Park life

A nice wee film which reminded me that everyone has thoughts happening up in their brains Even people you've never met. Golly

Midnight

A Time to Talk

When a friend calls to me from the road
And slows his horse to a meaning walk,
I don't stand still and look around
On all the hills I haven't hoed,
And shout from where I am, What is it?
No, not as there is a time to talk.
I thrust my hoe in the mellow ground,
Blade-end up and five feet tall,
And plod: I go up to the stone wall
For a friendly visit.

Lochaline Photo Diary

A constructive day in the office

Essential reading for my essay upon the indications for computer assisted tomography scanning in pulmonary embolism:

Scuttling Stones

An insightful documentary following a day in the life of a Lochaline hermit crab, or two.

Octopussies

Really great radio play.

Can an octopus recognise my face?  Can a bumblebee tell when I'm feeling blue?  Who knows.

Personal Summary

Currently applying for jobs. As of August 2014 I will be a practicing physician.

Here is how I summarised myself to prospective employers.

When not at university I enjoy travelling. Most recently I was on the Isle of Seil on the west coast of Scotland and spent my summer exploring Vietnam and Cambodia. I am interested in the visual arts, including modern art and independent cinema and dabble in amateur photography. I love the outdoors and, as well as being a member of a local allotment, have spent time working on an organic farm in the south of France.

There's a first time for everything

A summer of firsts; including motorbikes and mausoleums.

Sweat is not new.

Home

It's funny that after placing a few sentimental pebbles and moth eaten rugs around a place an empty room can suddenly feel like home.

Suddenly it's not so bad to be back. Ready for a new year.

Good.

I am enjoy stumbling across quaint quotes peppered amongst the medical jargon of the Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine.
For example:
We never see the people who are dear to us, save in the animated system, the perpetual motion of our incessant love for them, which before allowing the images that their faces present to reach us catches them in its vortex and flings them back upon the idea that we have always had of them, makes them adhere to it and coincide with it. Marcel Proust
 Or how about...
You never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them. Harper Lee

It's nice to get reminders of the humanitarian aspects of medicine at a time when I seem to be spending all my spare time attempting to understand the physiological and pharmacological intricacies of illness and disease.

I think I might actually quite like people...and being a doctor might be quite good.
Maybe.
